“ Smokers would rather smoke
old rope than not smoke at all.”
Allen Carr, The Easy Way to Stop Smoking
Allen Carr tells us that the only thing that stops a smoker from quitting is FEAR. I believe that is the bottom-line truth. Yes, nicotine addiction is one of the most difficult addictions to deprogram and the mind has hard-wired the habit into its thinking process. But the wall into between the smoker and the deprogramming process is a WALL OF FEAR.

FEARS FACING SMOKERS WHO WANT TO QUIT:
- I won’t be able to concentrate
- I won’t be able to relax
- I won’t be able to relieve my stress
- I won’t enjoy my coffee or beer or whatever else
- I can’t find that perk of well being any other way
- I don’t want to deprive myself; my life is too hard already
- If XYZ happens, how will I cope?
- I won’t be able to sleep if I don’t have a cigarette on hand
- I’ll get anxious if I leave the house without taking a pack with me
- If I quite my personality will change
- If I quit I will become a compulsive eater and gain weight
- I’m afraid quitting will make me too stressed out

You can add your own. The good news, says Carr, is that the brief jolt of
a nicotine high is followed by a nasty process that makes the smoker more
nervous than if he had not inhaled in the first place. A smoker does not
want to hear that.
